About This Game Expect the ultimate B-Movie Trash experience! Don´t even dare to hope for state-of the art graphics, a proper balancing, professional voice acting or breathtaking script-writing. This here is 100% pure trash, an adventure / shooter hybrid with gazillions of bad jokes, dozens of pop culture references and a hidden, dense net of subversive, intelligent messages related to post-WWII-politics. THAT would be what Petes job is all about - but luckily for him, he has a good customer paying his bills. It`s GlobalSecure Inc., one of the biggest insurance companies on the East Coast. More exactly, it`s Samantha "Sam" Miller who runs their investigation department on insurance fraud. She`s tough, she`s intelligent, she`s better than Pete. By far better. But due to the companies Code of Conduct and some very nasty ethic rules, she`s prevented from taking, erm, "semi-legal" steps to gain essential information and proofs. That`s where Pete steps in - for 500 bucks per day + expenses + a nice 20% share of the money the company saves with whatever Pete finds out.Into the Dark is a playable B-Movie, a trash experience composed out of 60% humor, 30% horror and 10% technical flaws. I tried from the start no less than 15 times. There is little ammo, it takes 10 or so shots to kill creatures and appears there is no mapping to increase kills for headshots etc. The close in combat is slow and cumbersome and not worth trying. All in all it looks like a funny game and well done if you can run away from everything and avoid shooting or hitting anything at all costs. The game can now played with keyboard+mouse, and the base color options are those of category C, while highlighting an option with the mouse turns them into a variant of option D. Check out this giveaway contest! https://www.destructoid.com/contest-get-swept-up-in-this-rainswept-prize-pack-515994.phtml. #20 Update speech bubbles, dialog boxes and diary.: Hi!These past few weeks I’ve spent most of my time creating the diary system and adding notes for it, but the most exciting news are the new speech bubbles!The biggest complaint with the demo was that at times it was hard to tell who was the speaker of which dialogue, as the old speech bubbles were just boxes on top of multiple characters’ heads. I always wanted to add comic style speech bubbles with arrows pointing to the speakers heads, but I wasn’t sure how to make that work dynamically.The solution was surprisingly simple and only took me a few minutes to implement. All I had to do was make an arrow shaped sprite show up right above the speaking character’s head, disconnected from the dialog box itself. This allows the arrow to follow the character to the edge of the screen while the dialog box remains static - giving it that dynamic look I wanted!Also updated, the conversation options box’s design. What do you think? Would a more solid, black box with red/ blue color text (like in the speech bubbles) work better?I've also been testing different color combinations for the interaction wheel UI. After a lot of testing and asking for opinions, I've settled on C. What do you think?Lastly, the diary system. This has probably been one of the most time consuming features of all, but it’s hard to imagine a Detective game without a notepad, right? As a result, this feature has been reduced in scope and is a very simplistic record of the Detective’s observations (rather than a multi-tabbed compendium as planned earlier)I think it does the job all the same! The first couple of days were spent on restructuring the game and creating most of the systems that will allow players to move freely between locations using the main market street as a "hub" between investigations. This mostly meant creating a lot of variables to keep in check if a player has completed a certain investigation, and how the world state of the hub/ market street should react to that (stop the player from re doing the same investigation, open up a new scene, change time/ weather etc)Of course, there's not much to show when it comes to that. But other than that, the next few days have been a bit more visually appealing, so here's some screenshots! The first is a concept art that I made in a couple of minutes while listening to some shoegaze :)The song in question is "Finland" by Vet Trip. Enabled launcher that will allow users to change the resolution before launching the game.Hope you have a good time with the game, and thanks for reviewing Rainswept! :)Armaan. #8 Hair physics!: Hello!There's been a lot of progress made in recent days on the visual polish front, one of them being adding some life to one of the character's hair!(I'm unable to upload a .gif here, so here's a link to it instead: https://imgur.com/a/71SPm )The animation for Rainswept is being done using Anima2D - a skeletal animation plugin for Unity - and the hair has been animated through the use of spring bones. The same technique will be used for things like the Detective's tie/ clothing and other characters' hair as well. Should be fun!I've also been working on creating multiple weather/ lighting conditions for each scene, which I'll talk about next week.-Armaan
